Every woman, working or not, should have some wardrobe essentials.
Having these basics automatically increases your outfit options while ensuring you always have something to wear.
The 7 Wardrobe Essentials
1. The White Shirt
Find a white shirt that fits you perfectly- then buy more than 1 . If you are getting more than two – get one in a size up (if the weight gain days ever come).
2. The fitted t-shirts
These are wardrobe essentials like no other – in winter they can be worn in layers. In summer if you wear a fitted t-shirt, a pair of jeans, a jacket and some accessories you will look like a million dollars!
3. The Jeans
Find your perfect jeans…. fitted (but not skinny) a shade of blue that is not so faded it can’t be dressed up… stops right at your ankle and make you look slim.
Now that you have found it, get as many pairs as you can afford. The jeans is not a seasonal fashion piece.
4. The Black Structured Jacket
A structured jacket will dress up any outfit. Paired with a casual dress, it becomes office wear. Paired with your white shirt and jeans – voila! Its business casual. You can wear a good structured jacket with almost anything… go forth and get one!
5. The Pair of Black Trousers or Black Skirt
These are wardrobe essentials that will play their part in widening your option. They can be combined with any colour of blouse or shirt. Either a skirt or a pair of trousers will do .
6. The Ballet Flats
I’m one of those women who wouldn’t wear their heels for miles… why ruin my legs/feet?
I have loads of heel wearing years to go! So I tend to wear my ballet flats and change into my heels when I get to my destination and vice versa…
Please don’t do that trainers on suit, trainers on dress combo. It is irritating, wear ballet flats instead.
Get quality ones and they will last you for years.
7. The Versatile Dress
As you can see I didn’t say the little black dress (LBD).
Your versatile dress could be black or tan or some other pale shade that goes well with your skin.
However do note that wrap dresses are usually more versatile than others. They can be dressed up with heels and jewellery or dressed down with ballet flats or taken to work with a structured jacket!

Thanks for the tips, Aloted!
Thanks Selene! I hope they were useful 🙂
Great picks! The white shirt is definitely a must have! I have yet to find the perfect one for myself though! Jeans, however, I have coming out my ears! Let’s just say I have a lot. For fitted shirts, I love The Gap! And Anthropologie has some of the best structured jackets! I have too many in my closet to count! While I’m here, I just wanted to say thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment! Hope you’re having a great day :o)
Hi Elena, I agree the white shirt is a must have! What size are you, I should come “steal” some of your jeans 🙂
Not sure I have heard of Anthropologie, will have to check it out now. Thanks!
Good guest post! I especially liked #7. Many tend to say that a woman must have a black dress. Not necessarily. Any solid color dress may do. It’s the accessorizing that makes th difference :). Thank you for sharing this @ The SHOW OFF Blog Party!
