A lot of working mothers struggle with waking up early. If this is an issue for you, I want to show you how to stop this habit today.
From as early as I can remember I have LOVED my sleep and I did not let anything interfere with my sleep time. I could actually call myself a sleep addict! Ask anyone who knows me personally, they will tell you.
It was so bad that I would snooze my alarm from 6:30a.m and finally get out of bed at 7a.m. I would only have one hour to get ready for work! You can imagine how rushed I was in the mornings.
The flaw with doing this every day, in and out was that because I started my day wrong, it messed up my whole day. Weekends were no better, I slept late and then woke up late. Another unproductive day gone!
I was constantly on the edge and stressed out. 24 hours was never enough and I didn’t seem to know what to do.
I knew I had to make a change but didn’t know where to start. I even asked God to help in waking up early which he did but I still couldn’t get out of bed.
Till recently when I put a plan of action in place.
Now I get up at 5:30 a.m (even at weekends) and do some amazing productive tasks before my family wakes up.
I cannot believe how unproductive I have been all these years by not waking up early. I am so glad, my days of sleep addiction are over!
So How Did I Do it?
I would like to share a few tips I implemented recently. It was actually easier than I thought. If you are serious about maximizing your time in the mornings & being productive; read on and follow the tips. If Aloted, the queen of sleep, could do it, then anyone can.
Before You Start
1) Define the purpose– what do you need to accomplish by waking up early.
What is the benefit to you? For me, the main reason I wanted to wake up early is so I could:
- start my day in a relaxed and unhurried state
- spend time with God,
- exercise
- write
- plan the rest of the day
with NO INTERFERENCE (benefit) from anybody.
Have you ever tried to work out or write with a toddler getting in-between your legs and pressing your keyboard respectively? Not funny.
The early hours of the morning is so peaceful and quiet, you are alert and productive unlike in the evenings.
2) Inform your family ahead– let your spouse and children know there is going to be some changes at home.
Make them aware, this is going to be mummy’s time. Yes! doctor’s orders 🙂
If your little one gets out of bed early, your plan will be to send them back to bed or get them involved in something else. If you still have a baby, get the hubby on baby duty time if possible.
They will have your attention at other times of the day so I think that’s only a fair price to pay.
