As a Super Working Mum, who desires to advance with her vision and ideas, you need to be in control of your time. You need to be able to set goals and complete them without getting overwhelmed.
You need to know how to break down your goals into actionable tasks so that you find them easy to complete.
As busy mums, we have a lot competing for our attention so having a solid plan to keep us on track is essential.
So today I want to show you step by step how to break down and complete your goals effortlessly.
I will start with two key principles.
1. Start with the end in mind
To achieve any goal you need to have a clear vision of what you want to achieve and where you are heading. This is what will determine everything else you do with your time. Without a vision, people perish, so a CLEAR vision is required to achieve your goals.
2. Apply the Rule of 5
According to Jack canfield, “The Rule of Five” is a commitment to taking five specific actions that would quickly move your goal towards completion.
You should have a maximum of 5 things you are doing periodically to focus on so you are not overwhelmed.
In my opinion it doesn’t have to be exactly 5 action steps but anything more than 5 means you might likely get overwhelmed which is what we want to avoid.
How to break down and complete your goals
This technique is what I teach my mommas in the Super Working Mum Academy and those who attend our end of year retreats.
You can apply it any time of the year but for it to be very effective, towards the end of the year is a good time to map out your strategy for the following year.
Yearly goals
As I mentioned before start with the end in mind when setting your goals. What is your high level goals for the coming year. In your mind with the help of the Holy Spirit, picture December 31st of the following year and ask yourself, what should have happened by today for this year to be a successful year?
Dream big! Then begin to write.
Using the rule of 5, focus on just 5 BIG things you want to achieve in the year.
Quarterly goals
We have four quarters in a year. Now take your big level goals and break them down into quarters. Again thinking of the end in mind, think of the “end of quarter” months: March, June, September and December and ask yourself what should have happened by the end of each quarter to make it a success?
Then write. Apply the rule of 5 again still keeping your goals high level.
Monthly goals
At the start of every month think to the last day of the month and write down 5 things you must have achieved in that month to move you closer to advancing your vision which you already outline in your yearly and quarterly goals.
Now we are thinking more action steps than high level goals.
These action steps are what you need to focus on that month. You must be disciplined to not get distracted because you can only complete your goals when you are FOCUSED.
Weekly goals
Before the start of a new week, preferably on Sunday, plan out your week.
Break down your monthly goals into actionable steps to be completed each week of that month.
Again apply the rule of 5.
Daily goals
It all boils down to what you do daily.
Break down your daily tasks into at least 5 action steps.
At least 2 to 3 of these action steps should follow into actions you MUST do. That way, if you don’t get to do anything else that day at least your important actions have been taken care of.
Of course we all have to be flexible but having a solid plan like this will help you stay on track. Even when interruptions occurs as expected as a busy mum, you can always come back to your plan.
Always remember to celebrate your wins!
I know…
Yes it might sound like a lot of work initially but I am confident that you will achieve a lot more during your day and week this way, that trying to figure out what you want to do every day and then end up faffing around or fire fighting because you don’t have a plan.
Once you get into the habit of breaking down your goals, you will find you are more productive and motivated.
An excellent tool I created called The Living Purposefully Journal will help you keep track of each stage: quarter, month, week and day. You can get more information about the journal by clicking the image or this link.
There is currently a special coupon to get 10% off.
Use coupon code: CELEBRATE when placing your order. Expires October 31st 2018.
This post is just a high level overview of what I extensively share in one of my programmes Manifest Dreams available only when you join the Super Working Mum Academy.
Doors to the Academy will be opened for only three days in December 2018 and you can join the waiting list below to be the first to apply when we open.
So tell me- do you have goals for your life/business/career which you are achieving or are you currently winging life?
Awareness is the first step to change.
You know this! Detola.
Thanks again for the reminder. I think the tougher ones to stay on top of are the daily goals. But they are the ones that feed into the weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly goals. But the productivity journal does help with keeping track.
You are right! It is what we do on a DAILY basis that matters. It’s easy to have high level goals but execution is where people struggle.. but by keeping our goals in front of us daily we can do it!
Thanks for stopping by!
