Having a business coach or mentor is paramount to your success in business.
Every successful business woman I know and have heard of has a coach.
I have a business coach and also a mentor and I always leave refreshed, energised, ready to take action whenever I talk to either of them. My business has grown tremendously as a result of having a business coach and a mentor. It is invaluable!
A great business coach is successful in their own business and provides you with their expertise and learnings from their own mistakes.
A business coach asks more questions than they answer. They force you to think about your business in ways that you wouldn’t do on your own.
A coach will look into your business and identify those areas of your business that require improvements, changes, and identify growth opportunities, and then formulate a plan of action, which you can use or refer to, on consistent basis. Like a basketball coach, a business coach focuses on the game.

If you are currently struggling in your business and not making any head way, here are five reasons why you need a business coach to help you.
5 reasons why you need a business coach
Provides insight
Because your business is yours, you are close to it so it may be hard to be objective about your business. A business coach can provide insights into your business that never crossed your mind.
Profits
If your business is stagnant and not making money, it is time to turn things around by investing in a business coach.
I know investing in a business coach sounds counter intuitive but through the expertise and advise you get from your business coach for your business, you will make your investment back and more profit quicker.
A business coach can look into your business and uncover strategies for your marketing, sales, advertising, business growth, profit growth, collaboration and time management.
Accountability
Sometimes you know what you need to do to grow your business. However not having clear direction or someone to keep you in check may lead to procrastination or not working on what you need to do to take you to the next level.
A business coach can provide an action oriented plan that would help you work towards your goals. Also knowing that you have to report back to your coach can give you the drive you need to do the work.
Training
As a business owner, you need be at the top of your game at all times. You need to keep up with the up-to-date industry changes and information especially when it comes to running a business online.
Through personal training from your business coach or a group program, you can learn new things at a faster rate that you can use to improve yourself and the business.
Motivation
I know you love what you do but sometimes you may feel bored, discouraged, overwhelmed and unmotivated.
To get your mojo back just like when you first started your business, you need a boost of motivation or a big kick. The fastest way to be motivated again is through the help of a business coach.
A business coach will motivate you and give you the boost you need.
So those are my 5 reasons why you need a business coach.
Your coach or mentor does not necessarily have to be in the same industry as you. In fact, it could be a good thing as they will see several angles that you do not see. The very best coaches may know nothing about your industry. It is their status as an outsider that makes their perspective so valuable.
This is what Nicola Smith of A Handcrafted Business says about getting business help
“If you run your own business – please please don’t do it on your own!
Get yourself a business mentor, or join a membership group with other like minded business peeps. Make sure you find a group or mentor which fits with you!!
I have just had a big chat with my fantastic mentor, and she has opened my eyes yet again. She keeps me on the right path and spots when I am going off on a tangent, or self sabotaging.
She doesn’t have any hidden agenda other than helping me. She doesn’t set my business direction or tell me who or what to do. She guides and help me achieve. She makes sure my mindset matches my goals, and asks me questions which make me stop and frankly learn a lot.
We all need someone who can see when we are going down a rabbit hole or are letting our fears get the better of us. Someone who can give a big kick in the right direction or a helping hand out of the hole we are digging ourselves into.
This isn’t meant as self promotion.
It is a plea. I know from past experience that doing it on your own is hard work and means you are more likely to give up because it is just too hard.
Find a mentor or leader who is right for you.
The biggest and best business peeps have mentors; it isn’t a sign of weakness it is a sign of commitment to your business and goals.
Having a mentor or being part of a led membership group may seem like a luxury, it may seem like something for the future.
It isn’t.
You need it now!
This is an investment in you. A commitment you need to make.
If you want to make ‘it’, then it is an investment which is worth it, and will repay itself over and over – both by stopping you wasting time and by bringing in money!”
I totally agree with Nicola. You cannot afford to continue without a business coach or mentor if you want to succeed.
I know when starting out it may be expensive to invest one on one time with a business coach so you could start out by joining a membership group where you can get the support of a business coach whilst networking and getting support from other like minded members in the group.
The Faith, Family and Financial freedom Inner circle is an affordable membership group for Christian Working Mums in business where you can get all round help on faith, business and home matters. Click here for more information on the Inner circle and how to join.
Prayerfully look for a business coach or mentor who believes in you and your business and is committed to seeing you succeed.
Now, not later, is the time to get business help.
couldn’t agree with you more Aloted! well written article 🙂
Thanks Emilia:)
Yes, it is a good support structure that can help you go forward in both business and life. I would also add before investing in a ‘business’ coach, find out if they are a right fit. It is good also for them to also have ran a business, if they specialise in business coaching. Often you may get people ‘touting’ that they are an expert in an area, but have not worked it out themselves. I would say have that as a ‘buyer aware’
I definitely agree Sophia…you have to be a right fit, I signed up to one of my coach’s low products to see if we would be a good fit before deciding to invest more
Getting a coach was the best thing I did for my business!
Same here Chichi, same here 🙂
Coach/mentors important for so many different aspects of life business coaching definitely a necessity… I agree, either one to one coaching /group coaching, somewhere to gain insight, wider perspective… A mentor (unpaid) can also be incredible for you actioning what you have learnt from business coach… There are differences between a coach and a mentor (paid/unpaid)…..Mastermind groups (with peers) also important,…
Joining a paid membership with a coach was definitely the BEST thing I did… I totally believe it needs to be a paid group rather than free, because of the level of commitment of the members (not the coach).. When you are in a group with others who pay, it means they are interested/invested in their personal development, the dynamics and what you gain from the group is completely different to being part of a free group. (though free groups can also be useful)
You are absolutely right.. thanks for sharing this…
I totally agree! I’m glad I have discovered this early!
awesome!
