I would love to introduce our new series- Featured Super Working Mum (SWM) of the month! First up we have Tolulope Popoola.
This new series means every month a different working mum will be featured on the SWM website. I think celebrate the super working mums is a cool thing to do, don’t you agree?
Tolulope Popoola is a good friend of mine who recently launched her first book- “Nothing Comes Close” and I must say I enjoyed reading this romantic book. I am not really a fan of romantic books as I find them cheesy but Tolulope’s book left a good feeling in me by the time I finished reading it. The book also had an element of suspense to it which I liked. So yes i recommend it to y’all. Ok enough yapping from me. Let’s hear from working mum Tolulope Popoola …
Super Working Mum Tolulope Popoola reveals more to us
Please tell us about yourself?
My name is Tolulope Popoola, I was born in the 80s, I grew up in Lagos, Nigeria in a family where reading and academic pursuits were positively encouraged. As a child, I was a real bookworm; the introvert who preferred staying at home reading to going out and partying.
I left Nigeria for the UK in 2000 for my university education. I studied Accounting and Business Economics for my first degree, and after a year in the workplace, I went on to gain a Masters in Finance and Investment.
In between all those trips to the library to study at university, I met my husband (smiles) and we got married in 2005. One day, a light bulb went off in my head and I realised I was in the wrong career. I left Accounting in 2008 to become a full-time writer.
How many children do you have and how old are they?
I have one gorgeous little girl and she’s two years old.
What do you do for work?
I’m a writer and independent publisher.
Please tell us about your new book?
Nothing Comes Close is a story of love, friendship, betrayal, secrets, honesty, regrets and hopefully, a happy ending. It revolves around two people, Lola and Wole.
Lola is a confident career girl. She is feisty and fun, she’s intelligent but vulnerable. She has her flaws, but she knows what she wants and she stands for what she believes in. She often sees things in black and white, and she is not afraid to speak her mind or take risks.
Wole is her love interest; he is quite mysterious and unpredictable, but he’s also very loyal and he’s got a huge sense of duty and justice. Together, they make for a very interesting couple.
Where can your book be purchased?
The ebook and paperback can be purchased from Amazon UK, Amazon USA, Waterstones, Book Depository, WHSmith, Kobo, Apple iStore, Sony EReader Store, Smashwords, etc. For more information, please go to www.accomplishpress.com/books
How do you juggle working at home and looking after your child?
Since I work from home it means I can be quite flexible as I can choose my own working hours, fit tasks around my family and other commitments.
My day usually consists of juggling work around an active toddler, so that’s when I do the simple administrative tasks like sending emails. I do my serious writing and editing during the night and early hours of the morning when my household is asleep, and everywhere is quiet.
Please tell us what the phase “super working mum” means to you?
To me, it means a woman who is capable of doing everything she sets her mind to do and making a success of all the roles she has to play, including being a wife and mother.
What success tips do you have to share with other Super working mums in juggling work and family life?
- Prioritise. Choose what are your most important tasks for each day and focus on them. You only have so much time and so much energy.
- Make lists. I found that making lists has helped me to be more organised and I remember what needs doing and when.
Thanks Tolulope Popoola for sharing a bit of your life with us and your book! 🙂
All, please leave a comment or question for Tolulope Popoola if any. Cheers!
I congratulate you, and I too use those quiet morning hours to my advantage, normally, I use that time to tidy up or do something just for me, like stretch or work out! Your book looks terrific too, relevant topics in it!
Great series idea! Looking forward to hearing from more working mums. I’m three weeks in as a working mum in a demanding career and enjoy reading how others make it work. Thanks very much!
Thanks Jemma. congrats on the baby and all the best as a working mum. I hope you’ll find resources you need here or you can ask any questions. I will endeavour to do a post on it. 🙂
